US Capitol, from Pixabay
The fact is, a group of Trump supporters broke into Capitol Hill on January 6th, at the direction of former president Trump. People died. It’s a wonder more people didn’t. (Remember their chants of “Hang Mike Pence”? They even built a gallows.) It was an insurrection, and even some Republican congress members may have been involved. (For instance, we know someone gave the insurrectionists a map of the layout.)
But House GOP leader Kevin McCarthy announced yesterday he would not support the bipartisan agreement hammered out in the Senate, and minority whip Rep. Steve Scalise said he will be whipping Republican votes against the legislation.
They won’t cooperate because they know what will come out, and they’re terrified.
Well, then. Let’s not waste any more time on this little dance. It’s important that we find out who’s on the side of democracy -- and who isn’t. If Republicans do not suffer the consequences for 1/6, they will only try it again.
Write your Congress members and tell them you want those hearings now, whether Republicans want to cooperate or not. It’s a stalling tactic.
Hold the hearings. Hold them now. Let’s see what they say on TV, under oath.
